Over the last few months, I’d been struggling with managing my free time.

It was just client-work, lead generation, and then…

I would procrastinate and not do much else.

I’d spend my time on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter or watching shows.

I’d regret wasting time.

To change that, I did a little bit of research into how I can manage my time better.

Here’s what I found. 

  • Setting goals that are unrealistic does not work.
  • Scheduling yourself to death does not work.
  • Trying to force yourself to actually do stuff doesn’t work.
  • Punishing yourself for not doing the work doesn’t help at all.

Of course there’s going to be exceptions. Some people are absolute monsters and can force themselves to do all kinds of things.

But I’m not one of them. I’m a guy who wants to not waste his time doing things that do not benefit me or anyone around me.

So how can I not just want to do stuff, but actually keep myself accountable too?

Being part of Jake Hoffberg’s Financial Copy group has been very helpful.

I’m going to be honest with you, what Jake recently shared actually blew my mind.

What he said was: if you are having trouble, you should write yourself a sales letter.

And that sales letter will sell you on pursuing the things that you want.

So first, find out what you want.

Spend 15 to 30 minutes a day writing what you want on a piece of paper.

Every single day.

And soon, some of the things that you write resonate with you more than others.

They’ll make you excited. Even euphoric if you’re more emotional.

Once you find the few things that give you a rush, dig even deeper.

Find out what connects those things. What gives you this excitement.

And then start writing a sales letter.

There are some points that you do not want to miss, such as:

  • What you actually want,
  • What the benefit of getting it is going to be for your life,
  • What drives you to words actually getting it,
  • What effect it’s going to have on your relationships and career,
  • Add a projection of what your future might look like if you actually get the things that you want,
  • What’s going to happen if you do not take action,
  • And how much it’s going to cost you compared to the benefits that you stand to gain.

Write to yourself from the very heart of your being.

That will make you naturally, automatically do the things that bring you success in life.

Now you can justify this as something mystical, auras, energies, Law of Attraction stuff. You can take it as “this is how people work on a psychological level”.

But I can’t deny this works. Nor can the dozens of people I’ve spoken to.

You want to repeat this regularly. And every time you will find that you are more and more driven, more and more able and wanting to take action.

And after you finish writing, you want to immediately use that excitement. That euphoric rush. This realization that you can do what you set your mind to. Opening yourself to all the opportunities before you.

But all that energy is useless if you do not put it into a long-term plan.

Take a piece of paper and listing the things you can do that will bring you closer to your goals.

And do this every single day.

You will soon find that the only thing you need to pay attention to is to write that letter every single day.

Plus, if you write that letter after waking up, you’ll be excited and energetic the entire day.

Because the first thing that you do every morning massively impacts your entire day.

And that is how you beat procrastination.

So pick up a pen and paper, write “WHAT DO I WANT?” on top, and get writing.
